The ACLU has sued the Milwaukee police department for stop and frisk program on behalf of several plaintiffs. The plaintiffs, who are minorities, had police encounters from 2010 onward, were not charged with any crime and allege they were not given any explanation as to why they were stopped.
The police chief denied that his department had any sort of stop and frisk program. He stated that they had increased traffic stops in “high-crime areas” to reduce crime. Traffic and pedestrian stops increased from 65,000 in 2007 to almost 200,000 in 2015.
