Cressida Dick will become Scotland Yard’s first female police commissioner. Ms. Dick was a beat officer in London’s West End before making her way to hold command positions in several counterterrorism operations. One of these operations ended in the fatal shooting of an innocent man, Jean Charles de Menezes, after he was mistaken for a known terrorist. Ms. Dick had left Scotland Yard to become general secretary at the Foreign Office. Three of the top posts in England’s criminal justice system are now held by women.
