On Tuesday, the European Union’s highest court ruled on the subject of wearing headscarves in the workplace. The court found that private employers were within their legal rights to ban female employees from wearing headscarves while on the job. The court also stated that the visible wearing of any political, philosophical, or religious sign did not constitute discrimination, as long as it was fairly applied to attire of all faiths. This ruling only applies to the workplace and would not affect someone’s choice to wear religious or political garments in public during their personal time.
