Charles Murphy, 56, jumped 20 stories to his death at the Sofitel New York Hotel on Monday, just before 5 pm. Murphy’s hedge fund, Fairfield Greenwich Group had invested more than $7 billion in Bernie Madoff’s wealth management firm. Madoff’s firm was running the largest Ponzi scheme in US history, thus losing Fairfield Greenwich Group $50 million dollars. Murphy lost his job because of the scheme.
Murphy was currently working as a partner at Paulson and Co. where founder John Paulson issued a statement saying Murphy was a “brilliant man, a great partner and a true friend.”
