President Trump has vowed that North Korea will face a devastating military strike if Kim Jong Un continues to threaten the US. Trump told reporters “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire, fury and, frankly, power the likes of which this world has never seen before.” The comment came as North Korea reacted to new UN sanctions against its nuclear weapons program. North Korea warned the US saying it would “pay dearly” for its crimes and that it was planning to strike Guam with a missile.
There have been reports from the Defense Intelligence Agency that North Korea has successfully developed a nuclear warhead that could fit on its missiles. This was also supported by a Japanese government study. The US also estimated that North Korea now has a nuclear arsenal with 60 warheads.
Trump’s comments startled the markets as it indicated a dramatic change from the US’s traditionally more diplomatic approach.
